On a beautiful sunny autumn Sunday 7th September the Tennis Club held its annual closed tournament when Men’s & Ladies singles, doubles & Mixed club champions were decided.
In the Men’s & Ladies singles Josh Dashwood and Abi Cartwright-Thomas proved again this year to be the best in the Club with Josh retaining his title from last year with a 7-6 6-3 win against Gratz Sen Stu and Abi winning for a record breaking sixth year in a row defeating Marcia Armstrong 6-3 6-3.
However in the doubles events it was all change. Coach Rob Jeffs teamed up with James Booth & defeated last year’s winners Dashwood and Adam Fowle 6-4 6-2 whilst in the Ladies doubles sisters Sarah and Rachel Jeffs overcame Sharon Mattheus and Shannon Tobin 6-3 2-6 6-4 in a hard fought battle.
In the Mixed doubles event Armstrong got her revenge however when she joined Dashwood to defeat 2013 winners Cartwright-Thomas and Fowle 7-5 4-6 6-4.
This year two junior boys events were also included on the day. In the 12 & Under Singles Luke Marsh beat Thomas Parrett and in the 16 & Under event Sam Howard came out on top in a tough three sets against Sam McDonald.
All together an excellent day of tennis enjoyed by competitors, their families and friends and club members alike.
