The National Finals in August 2013 return to Wimbledon after the Olympic Games in 2012 was held on the Championship grass courts where we all saw Andy Murray achieve outstanding success winning Gold in singles and Silver with Laura Robson in the mixed doubles.
The HSBC Road To Wimbledon starts at club, school and park level, open to all boys and girls 11-14 & under on 31 August 2013.
The winners of the first stage will all go through to the County Finals and the 44 County winnersand up to 20 best runners up will then go on to qualify for the National Finals, played in August at Wimbledon.
In 2012 and in previous years players with ratings higher than 9.1 have qualified for the finals soplease do not feel this event is for the top players. It is a grass roots event for players of all standards and I would like to invite as many clubs, schools and parks as possible to enter to give their juniors a chance to qualify and enjoy the competition. In 2013, Stage 1 will again be a grade 5 event open to all standards. The County Finals are Grade 4 and the National Finals Grade 3.
All the results are to be entered by the club organiser on Tennis Tournament Planner (TTP)which will count for LTA ratings/rankings. For players just starting out they can join the British Tennis Membership scheme which is free if they are a member of a registered place to play.By doing this they will receive many other benefits from the membership during the year.
Easy to enter all the club, school or park has to do is to submit a completed entry form by 31 January 2013 or later if your county extends the date. Once a club or school has entered the event, you will receive an easy Organiser’s guide pack on how to run your event.
Along with the All England Club and the LTA, HSBC - the official sponsor of the tournament, are right behind this event and with Tim Henman remaining as an ambassador, 2013 is set to be another great year of tennis for juniors across Great Britain!
