Tennace at GXLTC Inter Schools Tournament

Tennace at Gxltc Inter Schools Tournament    29th June 2014

Celebrated its 10th year anniversary with over 120 children aged from 4 (Reception) to 11 (year 6) from many local Schools Gayhurst, Gerrards Cross C of E, Chalfont St Peter Academy and Infant Schools, Denham Village, Maltmans Green, Thorpe House, Seer Green, St Joseph’s Catholic,

Each School entered three or four players per team in age-groups atYear1, year 2, year 3, year 4 and year 5 & 6 combined. The players were ranked in order of merit and the format was a knock-out draw with losing teams going into bonus draws.

Tennace Director and Head Professional Andy Scholfield organised and ran the event with the help of Tennace coaches Dan Shepherd and Tom Smith and many GXLTC Academy players (ex-competitiors in this event).

The Year 1 tournament had seven teams with Maltmans Green beating Gerrards Cross C of E 3-1 then Millie Shuttle and Anoushka Patel both won 10-9 against Ethan Tranter and Matthew Gabriel-Lewis from Gayhurst A at number 1 and 2 giving a 4-0 victory in the semi final. In the other half St Joseph’s (Callum Taafe, Marco Watson, Noah Gilmore and Casper Hayley) beat Gayhurst B before losing to Gerrards Cross C of E ‘A’ (Alex Thomas, Ollie Evans, Zac Hambury, and Rory Mangan). In the final GX C of E defeated Maltmans 4-0 but with Millie losing 10-9 to Ollie Evans at number two proving the crucial match.

Year 2 Chalfont St Peter Infant School beat Gerrards Cross C of E ‘A’ team 4-0 with Ben Viner putting in a great effort against Chalfont’s number 1 Dexter Dalston. Maltmans Green beat GXCofE ‘B’ team 4-o and clinched a 3-1 victory over a Mixed Gayhurst/Seer Green team 3-1. Maltmans represented by Alex Gola, Izzy Goutkin-Smith, Tiernan Gillard and Emma Servaes lost to Chalfont Infant school (Dexter Dalston, Aaron Gladman and Matthew Ziegal) 3-1 with Dexter clinching the match 10-8 against Emma Servaes.

Year 3 had eight teams competing and proved very competitive with very strong teams entered by Maltmans Green, Gayhurst and Thorpe House. Top seeds Maltmans Green A (Aneka Patel, Ella Carby, Acada Lue-Fong and Rebecca Nash-Steer) beat Gayhurst B and Maltmans Green C without the loss of a match to reach the final where they met Gayhurst A (Robbie Spittal, Max Mowle, Evan Thomas and Oscar Tranter) who had beaten Thorpe House 3-1 in the semi-final.  Rebecca at number 4 got Maltmans off to a great start winning 10-5 against Oscar Tranter; Evan levelled the match with a close tussle against Acada 10-8. However Max hit huge serves to nullify Ella’s great defensive skills to give Gayhurst a 2-1 lead. This left the decider between Bucks County players Robbie and Aneka and after some glorious rallies Robbie won 10-8 to give victory for a third year in a row to Gayhurst 3-0.

Year 4 which was a round-robin event saw Chalfont St Peter academy level at 11-11 matches all against Gayhurst.

The shoot-outs up to 3 points gave victory to Gayhurst School (Jonty Hughes-Penny, Sonny Dalston, Edward Beavington, and Charlie Hewson) over Chalfont (Louis Basnayake, Sonny Dalston, Dominic Hobson and Sam Derry who were unfortunately without the injured Charlie Goutkin-Smith).

Year 5&6 saw Gayhurst (Milo Connolly, Alex Lee, Seth Looney and Spencer Norways) victorious over St Joseph’s School (Manasi Kumar, William Evans, Sam Woodroff and Tristan Payne)

The day was completed by a draw for Wimbledon Tickets donated by Andy Scholfield

Evie-May Smith(Seer Green) and Reuben Sidhu (Gayhurst) were the lucky recipients !
