The sun shone for finals day at the Chesham Bois Junior Open competition providing a stunning end to a great week of tennis. Players from as far afield as Northumberland and Yorkshire as well as the Home Counties engaged in fierce competition and throughout the week spectators were treated to great displays of high quality tennis.
The Bucks flag was kept flying by Lauren King-Sparke (Win Tennis), the sole Bucks representative at finals day. Lauren claimed the U14 Girls title in a tough contest with Claudette Gilhespie (The Northumberland Club) which saw aggressive and skilful play from both girls.
Other notable winners were Megan Rogers (Win Tennis) who triumphed in both the U16 and U18 girl’s events and Charlie Ridout (Win Tennis) who won both the U16 and U18 boy’s competitions.
The most closely contested (and longest) match of the day was the U12 boys competition between Sam Christie (Caversham LTC) and Connor Ferguson (White Horse tennis and Leisure). The players were so closely matched and either could have emerged as winner right up until the last few points when Sam pulled away to take the title.
Players, parents and club members who came to watch the competition over the course of the week enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and hospitality of the Chesham Bois Tennis Club and have every intention of returning again next year.
