Boys 14U AEGON County Cup Team

We arrived Friday evening to practice, accustom ourselves to the venue and prepare for the battle of County Cup. The players had a good practice session and were in good spirits.

We had to play Cheshire on the first day, which on paper (according to ratings) was the most evenly balanced match. This was an epic fight in which Bucks came through with the tightest of margins with the overall score of 3-3; with Bucks winning more sets (9 to 7) and 68 games to 65!

The second day we faced Warwickshire who had lost to Yorkshire on the first day 5-1 and were desperate for a result.  Although we lost 5-1 the matches were very tight although the scores didn’t reflect this.

And so the final day and Yorkshire the favourites, who had won both previous matches (5-1 against Cheshire previous and Warwickshire as mentioned above).  Unfortunately due to rain the matches had to be played indoors and were reduced to best of three short sets.  Yorkshire had 3 players in the top 15 in the country and they proved to be too strong particularly on the faster indoor courts.  The doubles were not played as the results of both matches had been decided.

Buckinghamshire displayed a great fighting attitude, remaining once again in group 2 along with Warwickshire whilst Yorkshire was promoted and Cheshire relegated.  I would like to thank all the players and the parents for their support for making it an enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend.
