LIONEL COX: Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th May 2013 - U12/U11 Girls Teams
Firstly I would like to thank all the parents for their wonderful support to all the teams over the weekend. The weather on Saturday was ok to start but then the heavens opened and we had a down pour of rain, a thunder storm and hale stones. Unfortunately the courts were covered and the clay were out of action for the majority of the day, this did mean that on Saturday the U11 B team were still playing at 9.15 pm at night. It was a very long day for all.
Thanks also to Venetia Cosier on the Saturday for delivering and handing out the tracksuit tops for the teams, it was a Dell Boy moment with the boot up on her car most of the day, but the car was a black convertible not a three wheeler!!!! The tops were great and the teams all looked very smart.
Thanks to the team for providing some lovely cakes, yummy!!!
Well now to the tennis played over the weekend………..
U12 Girls Team
Indu had a fantastic 2 days only dropping 2 games in four matches and played with composer and consistency during all her matches, especially against Oxfordshire and in the final against Essex.
Erika also had a very good first day and focus was very important during her first two matches. On Sunday our last group match was against Oxfordshire and after a comfortable win in the final against Essex Erika although winning relatively comfortable in the first set, but eventually coming through 6-4, 6-4.
Sophie also had a very good day on Saturday and having only dropped 1 game in her fist match and wining her second match. On the Sunday against Oxon Sophie came up against a player, who although did not have the power was very consistent and unfortunately she lost this match in straight sets. But in the final Sophie played a brilliant match and held her nerve to win an impressive 3rd set match play tiebreak. This sealed our win in the final as Indu had already won and with Sophie winning we had already won the tie, but we beat Essex 3 rubbers to 0 and this sealed a great win.
Well done to the U12 Girls, Indu, Erika and Sophie a great two days.
We had 2 teams competing in the U11 Girls Event. Although we did not go through to the finals both teams played well.
U11 A Team
Hannah had a tough first match on the Saturday, although in the second set changed her tactics and this proved to be a much closer. Hannah did pick up an injury and then played her second match on the clay, which proved difficult as due to the injury found it difficult to move. On the Sunday. Hannah had recovered sufficiently to play her fist match and produced some great tennis to win a very close second set on the tie break. Unfortunately did not win her last match on Sunday, but played well.
Darcey had a comfortable win for her fist match, but then we played Essex and unfortunately lost. On the Sunday won a very comfortable first set and then lost her way in the second before winning a very close tie break. In her last match lost the first set very easily, but then sorted out her game to win the second set comfortably and another match play tie break to win.
Alexa Wilson unfortunately did not have an opponent for her fist match and in the second came up against a strong Essex player and although Alexa lost this match 2-4 2-4, this did not reflect her determination to try and win On Sunday Alexa played well to beat her opponent . In her final match Alexa lost the first set, but having played a very close second set and winning this 5-3, it came down again to another match play tie break, not sure my nerves would survive!!! But a very gripping tie break never the less winning 10-8.
U11 B Team
Emma played a very tough competitor in her first match against Beds and unfortunately although taking the first set went down again in another tie break for the final set 6-10. In her second match against Norfolk picked herself up and won this comfortably. On Sunday Emma came from 3 love down to win this match in two sets. Unfortunately against Northants Emma played a tough opponent and unfortunately lost this one.
Rachel won her first match on Saturday playing very well and unfortunately lost her second. On the Sunday had a very good win against the Bedfordshire player and then going down in her last match in a very close second set which she eventually lost on the tie break to Northamptonshire player.
Lilly although not as experienced player had a very tough first match on Saturday, but in the next one played really well finishing a tight second set with a very long final game and finishing on Saturday at 9.15 pm. On Sunday played again a very good match to win against Oxfordshire, but unfortunately did not have an opponent in the last match.
A big thank you to all the players and parents, it was a very long two days, out of the house for 26 hours, but it is a brilliant team event.
