Youth Group for British tennis launched

A nationwide recruitment drive is underway to create a Youth Group for British tennis, which will play a key role in getting more young adults playing tennis.

The panel will be made up of people aged between 16 – 25 years old, and will work with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the Tennis Foundation on the development of new offers and campaigns aimed at young people.

Birchwood Leisure and Tennis Complex is set to start its search for the next British tennis superstar in Warrington after announcing the launch of its new LiveWire Tennis Academy.

The club’s 25th birthday celebrations took place on Tuesday 18th June and were marked by the announcement of the academy – which will host an open talent spotting day on Sunday 7th July for children across Warrington aged between eight and 14 to showcase their skills.

The contrast could not have been greater; on one side of the net, resplendent in white tights and long dresses, stood the past champions. On the other, stood Hale’s bright new hopes, dressed in the brightest Murrayesque outfits they could muster. One team playing with wooden rackets, the other playing with rackets made with materials NASA would be proud of. A total of 156 years against a total of 16!

Read on to find out who won!
