The Autumn Junior Team Tennis league ran between September – December 2012 with the finals being held between January – February 2013.
This year 218 teams entered across 11 events including 8 & under right through to 18 & under. This was an increase of 67 teams from the 2011 league. Divisions were devised with a regional split across the county to reduce players to match teams ratings evenly, reduce travel time and hopefully enhance player’s experiences.
On Saturday 2nd February, 8 teams arrived at Bromley Tennis Centre for the 10U Autumn Boys League Team final. The following day, Sunday 3rd February saw 40 teams arrive at Bromley Tennis Centre to play in the 8U Boys/Girls, 9U Boys/Girls and 10U Girls finals.
In the 8U boy’s age group, 16 teams from across the county participated in a compass draw, playing both singles and doubles in their teams of 2. After a lot of fantastic tennis, the final was decided. The winners were West Heath ‘B’ team who won a close fought match against The Parklangley Club ‘B’ team. The 8 8U girls teams also played in a compass draw with Bromley Tennis Centre ‘A’ emerging victorious over the Bromley Tennis Centre ‘B’ team.
In the 9U age group 8 girl’s teams and 8 boys teams from up and down the county battled it out and 2 close finals were contested. In the boys final Bromley Tennis Centre beat Wye in a closely fought match, while West Heath ‘A’ beat Bromley Tennis Centre in the girls final.
The 10U age group also saw some excellent tennis with 8 Boys and 8 Girls teams of finalists from across the county. There was another close final in the boys event, contested between Tunbridge Wells and Canterbury; Tunbridge Wells emerged 2-1 winners. In the girls final Sundridge Park emerged winners beating West Heath ‘B’ team in a tough match.
Other county finals are happening at different tennis clubs throughout January and February in a number of different age groups.
