We launched the inaugural Autumn League (formally known as the Kent Junior Winter League) back in September 2011. The league itself ran between September–December 2011 with the finals being held between February–March 2012 (maybe need to revise the name!).
151 teams entered across 11 events which ranged from 8&Under right through to 18&Under. Divisions were devised with a regional split across the county to reduce players travel time, we looked to sensibly match the range of ratings within the teams and hopefully, enhance the overall experience for the players.
On Sunday 11th March 2012, 28 teams arrived at Bromley Tennis Centre for the 8&Under, 9&Under and 10&Under Autumn League Finals.
In the 8&Under event - 16 teams from across the county participated - playing both singles and doubles for their club. After a lot of fantastic tennis, the finalists were decided. The joint runners-up were Bromley Tennis Centre 3 and West Heath Tennis Centre 3 with Bromley Tennis Centre 1, who were undefeated throughout the finals, being crowned as the overall champions.
In the 9&Under event - 6 teams from around the county battled it out and a close final was contested between Tunbridge Wells LTC and Sundridge Park LTC with the team from Tunbridge Wells LTC emerging as the winners with a closely fought 2-1 victory.
The 10&Under event also saw some excellent tennis with 6 teams from across the county contesting the finals. There was another hard fought final between West Heath Tennis Centre and Canterbury Tennis Academy with West Heath Tennis Centre emerging as the victors by a tally of 2 rubbers to 1.
Overall the standard of tennis was of a really high level with the finals being played in a competitive but sporting manner.
Other county final play offs occurred at different tennis clubs throughout February and March in a number of different age groups.
All the players involved in the finals across the county should be extremely proud of their performance – winning through their against their local rivals and doing their club proud in the finals – well done to everyone involved and a special thank you for all the parents and coaches who make these things happen!
