On Sunday 18th March (Mother’s Day!), 32 of our best 9 & Under and 10 & Under players in Kent all competed for the honour of being the County Leaderboard Champion in their age group.
All of the boys and girls had achieved a lot just to reach the finals and the excellent standard of play on the day reflected this.
Both of the finals of the 9 & Under Orange events were taken to the wire with the girls and boys events settled in a third set tie-break. Charlie Stembridge (Canterbury Tennis Academy) defeated Henry Bowden (The Parklangley Club) to win the boys and Abigail Reinfelde (The Parklangley Club) overcame the valiant efforts of Jessica Smithson (The Parklangley Club) in another tough fought contest.
The Boys 10 & Under Green was equally competitive, with Oscar Brown (West Heath Tennis Centre) beating Thomas Wynne (West Heath Tennis Centre) in two sets although Thomas was staging a comeback and battled hard before Oscar finally sealed his victory in the second set tiebreak. The girls saw, an on-fire, Suzana Rudnitskaite (The Riverside Club) play an excellent match against Summer Reeves (Maidstone Tennis Club). Despite Summer’s best efforts Suzana won in two competitive sets.
All of the players had competed well over the winter season and had earned the right to compete in the finals and should be really proud of their achievement. It was a very entertaining day and thanks go to the players, all of their parents and supporters and to the staff of Bromley Tennis Centre for their help in making the event a terrific success.
