Sunday May 18 saw Frome Selwood Tennis Club hold the first of their two Great British Tennis Weekend events. From 10 am until close of play the Club was welcoming new visitors of all ages.
On offer were Cardio Tennis, Mini Tennis, Fastest Serve Competition, Free Play and Tennis Xpress. Committee members helped with visitors’ questions and Junior members were on hand to assist Head Coach, Phil Lawton, with coaching. Alongside the tennis activities members also organised the preparation and serving of food and refreshments. The BBQ, ably manned by Lucian Bujor proved particularly popular. ‘We had a thoroughly enjoyable day on Sunday, greeting lots of new faces, enjoying great British weather and watching a lot of fun being had on the courts,’ said John Price, Chairman of the club. ‘Interestingly, we found a lot of the attendees were actually families where both the adults and children were keen to have a go. As a result of the day more than forty people have signed up to find out more about taking up tennis again, or starting from scratch, and we are really looking forward to our second GBTW day on June 22nd.’
