This weekend is a busy one for many of our junior tennis players, both the 18 Unders and the 14 Unders flying the flag for Suffolk. Our 18 Under Boys' and Girls' teams both compete in the nationwide Aegon 18U County Cup, whilst the 14 Unders will be determined to put in a strong performance in the 12 Counties Championship at Corby.
Our 18U Girls make the short trip to Easton College, Norwich, where they will be competing in Group 5A against Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Shropshire. 14 Under Nia Braidford has been called into the squad recently, which comprises Kitty McWhirter, Ella Monsey, Troi Baxter, Hannah Vickers, Jemima Jacobs, Erica Belton and Catriona Pearson. Our Boys' 18 Under team make the longer trip to Taunton with Suffolk Men's Captain Jeremy Cowley, with a strong-looking squad os Matt Kirby, Myles Orton, Paul Midgley, Ryan Lambert, Darren Kappala-Ramsamy, Rohan Abel and James Ling. (non-travelling reserves : Henry Arrell and Jared Bones) Suffolk will be playing in Group 4A, and competing against Oxfordshire, Devon and Lincolnshire.
In the 12 Counties Championhip at Corby, Suffolk are 2nd in the overall table, just a point behind rivals Norfolk. A strong showing is needed from our 14 Unders, who will be represented by Toby Cutting, Max Darrington, Ben Jones, Jared Bones (non-travelling reserves William Cooke-Wharton and Jonathan Simmonds) on the Boys' side, with Philippa Clarke, Florence Kenworthy, Olivia Hine and Kiara Hammond turning out for the Girls. Let's hope Suffolk will be in an even stronger position when our 16 Unders compete in the final 12 Counties event on 24th March!
