Children in Ipswich are being encouraged to pick up a racket and play tennis this weekend as Ipswich Sports Club celebrates National Mini Tennis Week.
National Mini Tennis Week 2013, sponsored by Highland Spring, aims to give over 10,000 children across the country a fantastic first experience of LTA Mini Tennis and as part of the week Ipswich Sports Club, which is the preferred training base of Great Britain star Elena Baltacha, is hosting an open day.
LTA Mini Tennis, sponsored by Highland Spring has been developed by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to introduce children between three and ten years old to the sport.
National Mini Tennis Week will see children across the country pick up a racket from Monday June 10 to Sunday June 16 and Ipswich Sports Club is encouraging local children to join them on Saturday June 15 between 1pm and 4pm and get involved by a free coaching circuit teaching different aspects of the game of tennis.
Highland Spring will be providing each open day with a supply of their own water to keep everyone hydrated.
Peter Hazeldene, Ipswich Sports Club manager, said: “With smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls LTA Mini Tennis offers the perfect introduction to the sport of tennis.
“Tennis is a family sport and mini tennis provides a great way for children to get involved and encourage families to play together in a fun and social environment.
“We look forward to welcoming as many new faces down as possible to the club on Saturday.”
There are now more than 1,000 registered tennis venues delivering LTA Mini Tennis across the country, catering for more than 100,000 children.
