This Saturday sees the last of the age-groups competing in the 12 Counties Championship at Corby, though with our junior county teams well placed overall, it is very disappointing that our Girls’ 16U team has been withdrawn because of selection problems. Our neighbours Norfolk currently top the table on 22 points, with Leicestershire and Suffolk one point behind on 21. A strong showing from our 16Us could certainly have earnt promotion.
Suffolk boost a formidable 16U Boys’ quartet, a team that is well capable of putting in a great performance. Paul Midgley leads the way, and he will be well supported by Ryan Lambert, Darren Kappala-Ramsamy and Josh Towers. It is extremely unfortunate about our Girls to say the least, but team organisers can do little unless players make themselves available for selection.
This weekend also sees the closing date for the 17th Annual Suffolk Indoor Open Veterans’ Tournament, being held at the Ipswich Sports Club over the Easter Weekend as usual, from Thursday 5th April to Monday 9th April inclusive. Entries should be sent to Steve Pilcher at 2, Cranwell Grove, Grange Farm, Kesgrave, Nr Ipswich, IP5 2YN, by this Saturday at the latest. (01473-614229), or online at :www.lta.org.uk – competition reference SUF301.
Talking of Tournaments, the entry deadline for the National Fostering Agency Easter Tournament has been extended to Sunday lst April, entries to be sent to Sheelagh Watts in the County Office as usual, or online at : www.lta.org.uk – competition reference SUF 105 Looking ahead to the Summer programme, news has come through that the Bury and West Suffolk Junior Tournament is moving after no less than 85 years to the Culford Sports and Tennis Centre, where it is hoped that this popular traditional event will continue to attract good support, from the West Suffolk area especially.
