Haverhill Tennis Club held the second in a series of county tour events which saw children aged 9 and under visit the club from as far afield as Clacton, Hertfordshire and London. 15 children played in the event which took over 4 hours to complete.
They all played in round robin boxes to start with, and then after this played in elimination events. The 8 players going into the main draw were Jayden Forsdicke, Sachin Nagadev, Scott Bowman, Ella Tunon, Luca Tunon (age 7), Edward Hackett, Arihant Mishra-Agoram and SophieTjurina. After losing the first tie break Jayden beat Sachin 5-7, 7-1, 7-4, Scott beat Ella 9-7,7-5, Luca beat Edward 7-4,7-5 and Sophie beat Arihant 7-5,7-4. In the semi-finals Scott beat Jayden 8-6, 7-3 and after a very tight game Luca beat Sophie 7-2, 5-7, 7-4. The 3rd/4th playoff was won narrowly by Jayden 7-9, 7-5, 7-4.
If the children are exceptionally talented then they can be pass-ported up by the LTA. Luca is one of those players. The standard of play in the final was fantastic with some very long rallies and amazing recovery shots by both players. Scott eventually won in the 3rd tie break 16-14.
