Avon County Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has bid a fond farewell to Veteran Coordinator Les Treen after he retired from his post this week.
The 78-year-old volunteer has been presented with a commemorative plate in recognition of his many years’ service to tennis in the county.
Les, who was born in Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, played tennis for Somerset for 20 years, winning numerous county doubles titles and being runner up for the singles title in 1967.
As a veteran, he has won the Somerset Open nine times, the Avon Closed six times and the Wales 60+ title four years in a row from 1996 to 1999.
Aside from his playing career, Les has run the Avon Schools Championships from 1983 while also co-ordinating the 11 Avon Veteran teams.
Julie Jones, Tennis Development Manager for Avon & Wiltshire said: “Everyone who meets Les is overwhelmed by his love of tennis. In the County is deeply indebted to him for his years of service to the sport.”
