Backwell Tennis Club Finals Weekend was another huge success this year. 25 of the 26 finals took place over the weekend, with events for all ages from 10&U Girls to 60+ Men’s Doubles.
As usual the weekend was well supported over both days with a couple of hundred people watching the many finals that took place. In the Ladies Singles Hayley James beat Jude Barker to gain the trophy whilst in the Men’s Singles Ed Hardiman won his fourth consecutive men’s final beating Chris Thackray in a well fought match.
The Ladies Doubles saw Hayley James & Katie Hickling win & Hayley landed a hat-trick winning the Mixed Doubles Final with Chris Thackray. Chris also won the Men’s Doubles Final with his partner Peter Mann.
Despite heavy showers on both days the final match was completed just before 7pm on the Sunday & all 200+ hotdogs were eaten and enjoyed.
A big thank you to all those who volunteered to help over the weekend, without you the event would not be the success it was. In particular a big thank you to Malcom Barnes who helped with the organization of the tournament, Paul Jackson who Umpired 4 of the Finals & Chairman Richard Gaunt who gave up his weekend to present all of the trophies.
Entry for the 2014 Club Tournament is from March 2014, you never know it could be you who is in one of next year’s finals.
