Berkshire's Marcus Willis managed to bounce back from the disappointment of an early exit in the singles to reach yet another doubles final at the GB F22 Futures in the Black country town of Tipton today.
A win tomorrow would provide the all GB doubles pair Marcus Willis & Lewis Burton a record 7 pro doubles titles each in 2013 and 5 as a pair in in just 2 months, it's also their 7th final in 10 outings as a pair an amazing record that bodes well for the future.
Marcus got his opportunity to avenge his singles defeat against junior grand slam doubles champion George Morgan this afternoon in Tipton and achieved it in some style with the help of his new doubles partner Kent's Lewis Burton.
Marcus's manager Gary lewis said George Morgan is a fantastic doubles player he combines well with Berkshire & A1 Pharmaceuticals TA No2 Neil Pauffley so we anticipated a very tough match.
It was a highly entertaining SF with some great skills demonstrated by two exciting new all GB doubles pairs but Marcus & Lewis came through convincingly in the end with a comfortable 6-3 6-4 win.
The A1 doubles pair hit 6 aces and dropped just 1 service game compared with their opponents who had zero aces and dropped 3 service games.
Gary went on to say that it's great to see George Morgan back on tour after a long absence himself and Neil have found an excellent coach in Welshman Leighton Howard who I am confident will get them back on track at the excellent Nottingham performance centre.
Gary also said that we feel we have beaten the strongest doubles team at Tipton today but will not underestimate Stirling university pair Graeme Dyce & Callum Gee.
Stirling university Head coach Euan Mcginn has produced some outstanding doubles players over the years including the current GB no1 Colin Fleming so we will not be underestimating the talented all Scottish pair in the final on Friday.
