CELEBRATION EVENT FOR THE NEW TENNIS COURTS IN CHARVIL

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Charvil Community Tennis Club in association with Wokingham Borough Council are proud to announce our Celebration Event for the two brand new tennis courts at East Park Farm in Charvil. Designed to build upon the 2012 Olympic legacy and contribute to a new rural agenda, we hope to provide excellent facilities to the community and inspire another generation to get involved in tennis. The tennis courts, which are, uniquely, painted in the main London2012 Olympic colours, are the first public tennis courts within the UK to fulfil the Olympic legacy.

Charvil Community Tennis Club was founded just a year ago by a keen, enthusiastic group of Charvil residents who set out to make the best use of the tennis facilities at East Park Farm. There is no doubt that this was inspired by the 2012 Olympics as many of us watched and in some cases, helped as ‘Games Makers’. We hope to contribute to the Olympic legacy that was promised and encourage local residents to take up the sport and in particular to develop the talents of our young people. We formed a committee and started to make the local community aware of the club through publicity and Open Days. We developed our own website, Facebook and Twitter interfaces and organised coaching sessions for children of all ages.

East Park Farm had two existing tennis courts which unexpectedly became involved in the building of a new school - Charvil Piggott Primary School. As a result, the tennis courts had to be relocated and became part of the development plan for the new school. This presented an opportunity to improve and develop the facilities for the community. The CCTC committee began speaking to Wokingham Council, Charvil Parish Council, The Lawn Tennis Association, Sport England and Wargrave Piggott Academy. Through the co-operation of all these organisations and the persistence of the committee, we now have a fantastic, modern tennis facility, painted in the Olympic colours with two new practice walls.

When will we be celebrating the new "Inspired Facilities"?

The Opening Day for the new facility in East Park Farm, Charvil will be on the 20th October 2013 between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm. We welcome individuals and families from Charvil and surrounding areas, whether they are seasoned tennis players or beginners. Children and young people of all ages are welcome. LTA qualified tennis coaches Ross Batten and Josh Berry the Tennis impressionist will be running the junior coaching and will demonstrate tennis skills. Coaching is also available for adults, should they want it. Why not come along to our Celebration Event Day, so you too can be part of tangible Olympic Legacy? Drinks and snacks will be available at this celebration event.
