Marcus Willis storms into the SF at Kuwait

Thursday, October 03, 2013

Marcus Willis has convincingly defeated Matias Castro 6-1 6-0 this morning at the Pro series futures F3 in Kuwait. This means Marcus Willis has leapfrogged from GB no14 to GB no8 in just a few weeks and a min ATP ranking of No 366. Next up for the Berkshire no1 is the no4 seed Tristan Weissborn in the singles semi- final. Marcus defeated the Austrian last week in the Kuwait F2 convincingly 6-3 6-1.

Manager Gary Lewis said “Marcus is matching his no2 seeding and has a great chance of the final but let's take on step at a time. I know that Marcus defeated Tristan last week convincingly 6-3 6-1 but the Austrian is finding his form and has a strong pedigree as an 18 year he was ITF World ranked no30 so he's no slouch and Marcus will not be underestimating him. In saying that I think Marcus will meet the talented 21 year old Tak Wang from France.”

Like Marcus the Frenchman from Paris has had a meteoric rise this year he did not have a singles ranking end of 2012 and has soared to no333 in 10 months clear signs of a future ATP Top 100 singles player. Tak Wang made short work of Marcus’s doubles Lewis Burton partner this morning in one of the other QFs.

Marcus will be keen to cheer up his compatriot Lewis when he aims to make his 8th consecutive Pro futures final in just 6 weeks by reaching the doubles final this afternoon.

Manager Gary Lewis said "we have not employed a coach in 2013 because A1 pharmaceuticals funding is exhausted on travel and accommodation so we are searching for an additional Berkshire based sponsor that help fund specialist coaching for our 2014 campaign."
