Marcus Willis continues his good form today at the Pro Futures Kuwait F3 reaching QF singles & SF of the doubles.
Berkshire & A1 pharmaceuticals academy No1 Marcus Willis has increased his points total to a new record of 103 singles ATP points earned this year which is equivalent to world ranking of no371 after reaching the pro futures F3 singles Quarter final in Kuwait today!
After a prevailing in a tough 3 set 1st round match overcoming talented teenager Ken Onishi of Japan he made light work of his next opponent with a 6-0 6-0 demolition of local Wild card Dawood Sayed Hashim from Kuwait this morning.
Marcus is strong favourite to match his no2 seeding and overcome his next opponent in the singles QF when he faces the much lower ranked Argentinian Matias (no1129) who he plays on Thursday 3/10/2013.
The Berkshire no1's excellent form suggests he will be too strong for his Argentinian opponent who prefers clay and struggled last week against Marcus's doubles partner lewis burton who breezed past him 6-3 6-0 .
Marcus's manager Gary Lewis said “we knew that the talented Japanese teenager ken Onishi would be a tough nut to check in the 1st round main draw of the F3 because Marcus dropped a set against him last week but Marcus put in a great effort to defeat him twice in 2 weeks and now has a great chance of reaching back to back singles finals in Kuwait 2&3”
In the doubles this weds afternoon it was a similar story Marcus once again prevailed over long suffering Ken Onishi of Japan who was partnering S Lui of China.
Marcus & former Wimbledon doubles finalist Lewis burton again proved too strong and the no1 seeds marched into their 6th consecutive SF as a pair winning emphatically 6-2 6-1 their strong run of form includes 4 doubles titles , 1 RU and now their SF in 6 weeks .
The other half of the all GB dynamic Duo Lewis burton also made it through to the QF of the singles lewis faces the tough 1st seed next Wang of France but is looking forward to the challenge.
Manager Gary Lewis went on to say "what a difference a year makes , reaching the SF singles final would leapfrog Marcus from GB no14 to GB no8 & a new world of no365 an amazing achievement when you consider the Berkshire no1 ended last year outside of the Top 1000.”
Reaching the final would be a nice birthday present for Marcus who is celebrating his 23rd birthday on 9/10/2013.
Marcus has worked very hard this year the Kuwait is his 24th futures tournament of 2013 but the hard work is paying off. It's been an exciting roller coaster year and we are looking forward to moving onwards and consolidating with our strengthened A1 support team & exciting new doubles partnership in 2014.
The dynamic duo arrive back in the UK next week when after a short rest and light training they will be off again this time to the GB midlands futures series commencing at Lougborough in the 3rd week of October .
