On the 18th December at mid-day, Mark Twitchett, Chairman of Widmer End Tennis Club welcomed everyone to the official opening of our brand new resurfaced and refenced courts. He thanked all those who had helped over the years to raise money towards this work and especially Wycombe District Council for donating £8,000, the Widmer End Village Hall and the local Councillor who had also made contributions towards the £42,000 costs. They look wonderful and will give many years of enjoyable tennis.
The tape cutting was carried out by Dan & Luke, two very keen juniors representing the future of the Club, John Steed representing the present members and Keith Dewick, President of the Bucks LTA representing the official side of tennis.
Mulled wine, mince pies, sausage rolls and many other goodies were enjoyed by all present in addition to some great tennis from both the juniors and seniors (in spite of the mulled wine!).
In addition at our AGM in November Ian Finlay was awarded the Chairman's Special Prize for all his hard work on the grounds and clubhouse, including cutting the grass during the year, cleaning and decorating the outside of the club house and many other pieces of necessary maintenance work."
