Buckinghamshire 14U Girls were recently crowned champions of group 3B, making history as the first 14U girls team from the county to be promoted to the heights of group 2 in AEGON Junior County Cup!
Leicestershire were our first opponents on Saturday 3rd May and proved to be the toughest. Claudia, who started to suffer some back pain during the match came up against a stronger opponent on the day and lost in two tight sets. Liberty concluded the singles winning the first set 6-0 and finishing off with a gutsy 6-4 second set. The doubles teams of Alice and Ruby, Claudia and Liberty played aggressive tennis, intercepting volleys, topspin lobs, even a few serve and volley points and won convincingly. The tie finished Buckinghamshire 5, Leicestershire 1.
On the second day we were up against Lincolnshire. They had a tough first day against Norfolk so we knew it would put us into a great position if we won. In the singles rubbers Hollie, Alice, Claudia and Liberty all played some outstanding tennis and remained strong throughout to beat some tricky opponents. The tie score after the singles stood at 4-0 in our favour. Claudia and Liberty showed their opposition that they are learning to become great doubles players and gave them a thrashing. Alice and Ruby who were starting to become quite a dynamic doubles pair won the first set 7-5 playing in some very windy conditions but lost a tight second set. It came down to a 10 point match tie break. The girls took control early on and managed to hold on for a 10-6 win to seal an emphatic 6-0 win for Buckinghamshire.
Monday 4th May and all to play for! Only Norfolk stood in the way of promotion and the girls were pumped. Hollie and Alice were on fire in their singles, both winning within an hour. Claudia and Liberty stepped onto court with a chance to seal promotion before the doubles round. They both played outstanding tennis and with these two victories Buckinghamshire were promoted! Each member of the team played a match over the weekend culminating in a superb team achievement. The depth of our squad proved to be the key factor and was too much for the opposition to deal with.
Well done to all the girls, fantastic team effort and good fun had by all.
