Luca Botessi and Harley Dyer receiving medals

Stoke Poges are supporting the winning vision of British Tennis by hosting mini tennis competition at the club.  The first tournament took place on May 26th.

A great afternoon was had by players and parents as 9 and 10 year old boys competed in the inaugual mini-tennis green open competition hosted by Stoke Poges Lawn Tennis Club. The boys played the best of 3 short set singles with green balls.

Stoke Poges player Harley Dyer had to face the top rated player James Wyatt also from Gerrards Cross-Bull Lane in the first match.  Harley soon found his range and managed to win after some lengthy rallies.

The final saw Harley and Luca Bottesi (Burnham Tennis Association) face each other for the first time after having won all their matches. Luca  played well but just lost out to the strong ground shots of Harley.  The winning score of 4-0, 4-2 did not truely reflect the closeness between the two players.

Harvey Whittam, the referee, presented the prizes on a windy yet sunny day. He commented that all the matches had been played in a truely sporting manner and unusually without any arguments over line calls!

Since this tournament formed part of the Buckinghamshire LTA Grand Prix circuit, Harley now goes forward to compete against other county Grand Prix tournament winners at Bucks Indoor Tennis Centre, High Wycombe on 26th July.
