James Davis Wins at Wimbledon!

Congratulations to James Davis from Appeti Tennis Centre who won The HSBC Road to Wimbledon National Finals at Wimbledon last week.

The HSBC Road to Wimbledon finals brings together youngsters from all over the country who have won through club and county events.  These talented players are invited to the National finals which are held on the actual courts which are used during The Wimbledon Championships earlier in the year.

After a great week of competition James battled through to reach both the final in the singles and, partnered by Matthew Summers, the doubles event.  By reaching the finals for a second year running James has made Road to Wimbledon history by being the first boy to ever do this!

Finals day arrived and James' first match saw him playing Joe Tyler from Northamptonshire in the 14U final.  At one all a deciding set would determine the Road to Wimbledon Champion for 2013. After some brilliant play James was able to break serve and never looked back taking the match and title 0-6, 6-4, 6-3.

It wasn't long till James was back on court, this time with Matthew Summers, to play the doubles final.  After the first set James and Matthew found themselves a set down.  However spurred on by his earlier victory they both dug deep and were able to turn the match around and after a nail biting tiebreak won through 4-6, 7-6(4), 10-8.

Matthew Summers & Nell Miller reached the semi-finals of the singles events and Josephine Hogh also from Kent reached the final of the Girls Doubles.  Well done to you all on your achievements.
