Over the past four years there have been some significant developments to the competitive structure in Great Britain, which have supported growth in the number of juniors competing regularly from less than 9,000 to over 43,000

Due to this there will be changes in the ratings system which will focus on giving more players the opportunity to develop and improve their level and enter and play in the right competitions for their standard.

Both our Girls' and Boys' 18U Tennis teams did the county proud in the nationwide Aegon Inter-County Cup competition last weekend, the Girls making the long trip to Scotland worthwhile by beating both South of Scotland and North Wales to win promotion to Group 5, and the Boys literally missing out on the same feat by the loss of a few agonising points !! Both these results are very encouraging for the future.

This weekend is an important one for our top junior players, when both our leading 18U Girls and Boys compete in the nationwide Aegon Junior Inter-County Cup competition.

A huge boost both for Christchurch Park and community sport was today welcomed by British No. 1 tennis player Elena Baltacha.

Elena is patron of the Ipswich’s Tennis in the Park project – a partnership between Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich Sports Club – and it is the success of a pilot scheme that has led to a £142,500 grant from the Lawn Tennis Association, with support from Sport England, to re-build the park’s courts and develop a comprehensive coaching programme.

The Council and Ipswich Sports Club have agreed to deliver the exciting community programme for players of all levels and the new-look five courts will also be available for free casual use

A young Suffolk U14 tennis team travelled to Easton to take part in a 3 counties tournament with Bedford and Norfolk. Although competing against older girls, with two of the Suffolk team under 12, our team of Emily Davies, Erica Belton, Nia Braidford and Philippa Clarke played their hearts out and did the county proud by bringing home the trophy.

Please find the new county Regulary Competing Junior league table. This county league table shows the number of regularly competing junior players (RCJ) at each place to play within Suffolk.

Amberfield Tennis Players train at ATP World Finals

Amberfield School’s four Tennis Scholars Nia Braidford, Lara Chittick, Hannah Dale and Kiara Hammond were lucky enough to be given tickets to a training session with Boris Becker and Head Wimbledon Coach, Dan Bloxham, and to watch the semi-final match of the ATP World Tour.

Culford School are National Senior Students tennis champions again for the second successive year. Following the success of the girl’s team in 2010 Culford’s mixed team were crowned AEGON team champions after a nail-biting victory in the finals at Bolton Arena last weekend.
