Amberfield Tennis Players train at ATP World Finals

Amberfield School’s four Tennis Scholars Nia Braidford, Lara Chittick, Hannah Dale and Kiara Hammond were lucky enough to be given tickets to a training session with Boris Becker and Head Wimbledon Coach, Dan Bloxham, and to watch the semi-final match of the ATP World Tour.

Fourteen-year old Hannah Dale said “Watching Nadal and Murray play was great fun and I think it was the most exciting match of the tournament.

“Meeting Boris Becker was great and I really enjoyed doing the training with the others.  I have never had to work so hard in training - I must admit it was pretty hard.  On Sunday morning I was aching all over but the experience was definitely worth it.

The winter has been a busy and very successful time for Amberfield’s tennis players.   Kiara Hammond was runner up in the Copleston Cup in the U14 doubles event.  Olivia Haywood Smith won her Winter League series in the Autumn Term and has improved her rating to 9.2.   Meanwhile, Nia won the Girls’ 14 and under Three Counties Tournament and was a finalist in the David Lloyd Christmas Open.  She also played in the quarter finals of the LTA Winter National Competition.  In the Junior School, Lauren Swirles was picked for the Suffolk Under-8 Mini Red team and played in the Eight Counties tournament at Stevenage.
