The results table has just been published for the 14 and Unders in the 12 Counties Championship at Corby, and it’s good to see our boys’ quartet of William Wharton, Jonathan Simmonds, Oscar Cutting and Thomas Belton sitting proudly at the top of the tree. Victories over Hereford and Worcestershire and Notinghamshire, and a 2-2 draw with local rivals Cambridgeshire saw the Suffolk Boys finsishing in a comfortable first position.
Culford’s Wiliam Wharton led the way at number one with three victories out of three, the same feat achieved by Oscar Cutting, of the Ipswich Sports Club, with Jonathan Simmonds and Thomas Belton also making crucial contributions. It was very unfortunate that Suffolk made little impact in the Under 14 Girls’ section.
Hopefully, several of these youngsters will be competing in the National Fostering Agency Easter Hardcourt Tournament, being staged at the usual venue of the Ipswich Sports Club form April 8th-13th inclusive.
First up this weekend at Henley Road is the 18th annual Suffolk Indoor Open Veterans’ Tournament from Thursday 28th March to Monday lst April inclusive, with spectators more than welcome to watch these enthusiastic competitors perform, with food and bar facilities available as usual. There are sure to be a number of keenly contested encounters to watch over the 5 days, with the ages ranging from 35+ up to the equally energetic 70+s.
