Haverhill’s juniors have enjoyed playing in the revived Suffolk Junior Leagues over the Winter. The 14U team of Sam Howard, Sam MacDonald and Joshua Smith beat Wortham, Newmarket, Red Lodge and Culford to qualify for the finals which they won against A + M Tennis, Coddenham. The result all came down to the doubles, which Haverhill won 6-4 6-2, the winners receiving medals, a trophy, a plaque and a cheque for Haverhill Tennis Club. The Club held its penultimate competition of the Winter Series on 2nd March, with the 14U Boys in action again. The final was between Alfie Kennard and Sam McDonald, Sam rounding off an excellent week to win 5-3 4-1, with a brilliant attitude displayed by the 12 boys who took part, many competing in their first event. Stowmarket Tennis Club will be holding an Easter Camp for 10 year-old juniors on 2nd, 3rd and 5th April, and regular junior fun sessions are continuing with the Under 8s playing on Saturdays from 9.30am to 10.30am, The slightly older 9 year-olds play on Saturday from 10.30am to 11.30am, and the absolutely ancient over 10’s play on Thursdays from 6-7pm. There is a Ladies’ morning for beginner/improvers on Wednesdays from 9.30am, and Men’s Night is on Fridays from 6-7pm.
