Suffolk Junior Tennis is certainly booming at present, with considerable success at both ends of the age-spectrum. Having captured the 8 and Under Regional Mini Tennis title at Welwyn Garden City last month, both our 18 and Under Boys’ and Girls’ teams played superbly to win promotion in the nationwide Aegon Junior County Cup Competition last weekend.
A strong Boys’ line-up, under the watchful eye of Suffolk Men;’s Champion Matt Hough and based at Prestwick in Group 4B, recorded fine wins over the North of Scotland, Avon and the West of Scotland. Toby Cutting, Jared Bones and Ben Jones all made impressive debuts, other team nembers showing the value of their senior county experience, producing the winning edge just when it was needed.
It was a superb team effort, though special mention should go to James Ling who won 6 out of 6 matches, and Ryan Lambert, who won 5 out of 5. Unfortunately this marks the final year for stalwart performers Robert Camplin and Rohan Abel, but with other players still available, further progress is expected in future years. With Suffolk Girls performing equally well at the Wirral, both our teams are clearly on the move, and both sides certainly did the County proud both on and off court.
