Teacher Training Day
30th April 2014 at Ipswich Sports Club
The Teacher Training Day on 30th April 2014 will provide support and training to help schools with the competitions in the summer term. There will also be an inclusive tennis activity.
Please note: the training is free thanks to Tennis East and the Tennis Foundation who have provided the funding to allow this training to be offered. There are limited spaces on each activity so please apply early to guarantee your place. You can apply for more than one teacher from your school subject to spaces being available. Please note there is no supply cover offered for teachers attending the course – this will be your school’s responsibility to arrange and fund.
Summary of Each Session:-
Inclusive Tennis - This session will run from 09.15am -12.15pm
Many disabled young people have the ability to participate fully in tennis with little or no adaptations. However, for pupils with more limited abilities, tennis needs to be adapted to ensure that they can enjoy their experience. This training session supports SENCOs and teachers in their delivery. It is aimed at helping provide teachers with new ideas and tools to deliver tennis to children in a small space.
Each school attending for the first time will receive an inclusive tennis bag of equipment including balls, rackets, 2 x 3m nets, 12 x juggle squares, hitting hands and much more –valued at £500.
Each teacher attending will also receive a copy of Teacher Resources providing ideas for teaching skills, strokes and competitive activity.
This session is led by Richard Love, LTA tutor. There are only 24 places on this session, so book now to ensure you get a place.
Secondary Schools Tennis – this session will run from 09.15am -12.15pm
Many secondary school PE teachers have fed-back to the Tennis Foundation a need for further training to support the delivery of tennis in schools. This training session has been developed to provide teachers with confidence and knowledge to deliver traditional tennis and modified versions of the sport in secondary schools.
Each school attending for the first time will be supported with a Schools’ Tennis pack consisting of rackets, balls and a mini tennis net – all to the value of £500.
For schools who have attended before but are sending a new teacher, the teacher will receive teaching resources to support the delivery of tennis in your school.
This session is being led by Karen Woodrow, LTA Tutor. Only 24 spaces for this course – so book now.
Primary Tennis – This session will run from 12.45pm –3.45pm
This course has been developed to give teachers the skills and tools to deliver tennis to a class of children in a limited space. The session will demonstrate how you can give your pupils the perfect introduction to tennis using smaller courts, nets and rackets.
Schools attending this course for the first time will receive an Equipment Pack including rackets, indoor balls, outdoor balls and much more- valued at £500.
Every teacher attending will also receive teaching resources, including DVD teaching aids.

Cardio Tennis - This session will run from 12.45 -3.45pm
Cardio Tennis is a tennis- inspired workout played to up-tempo music. It is a fun, group activity that includes drills and games, providing pupils of all abilities with a high energy workout. It is suitable for everyone, including those who have not played tennis before to advanced players.
Each school attending Cardio Tennis for the first time will be supported by an AEGON Cardio Tennis Equipment Starter Pack consisting:
30 x Mini Tennis Red Balls & 30 x Mini Tennis Orange Balls
30 x pedometers & a mini travel cart
Each teacher attending will also receive a copy of the Cardio Tennis Teacher Resource which includes activity cards and lesson plans.
