Avon's orange ball U9 team competed at Cardiff at the weekend in the regionally based county cup competition.
It was good to be with a variety of teams from Wiltshire, S.Wales, Gloucester and Hampshire.
Our 3 boys and 3 girls competed well and from the beginning we knew we had a good strong team. The format is 3 boys and girls singles, 1 girls and 1 boys doubles and a mixed doubles. With strong performances against the opposition it was down to the very last matches of the day to decide the winners of the competition.
Our team of James Vincent, Henry Thomas, Arthur Yirrel , Amy Leather, Jessie Sanzo and Emilia Smith found themselves 4-2 down against Hants after singles. A great last round of doubles saw us winning 2 out of 3 matches, however, we of course needed all 3 for the overall victory, so unfortunately we came 2nd overall to Hants .
I find all team events great for the kids as it takes a little pressure of some players individually and as always the guys supported each other admirably throughout the day .
