GIRLS TEAM (report written by team player, Connie Simpson)

The Girl's 10&U Avon County Tennis Team played at Taunton Tennis Centre last weekend.
We played against Somerset and Wiltshire County Teams but unfortunately the 3 other teams pulled out due to it being played at a very busy time of year and struggling to get their top players out.

Our team consisted of Natasha Wraith, Lucy Edwards, Hannah Parry and me.

We all each played 1 singles against each team and also 1 doubles. We played consistantly and were all determined to play our best. We played outside and were lucky that it was cloudy but not wet. After 5 hours of playing or watching we were pleased to have won.

We had played and won 6\6 singles matches and 1\2 doubles. We beat Somerset 3-1 and Wiltshire 4-0. Martyn Bray our coach was really happy with the way we had played and we were all given certificates.

The team will now play in the National County Finals next weekend at Bolton
arena which I am really looking forward to. Martyn thinks it will be a tough weekend, as over half of the top 30 players in the country will be there but he thinks we have a good chance of surprising some of our nationally ranked opposition.

Team: Connie Simpson, Hannah Parry, Natasha Wraith & Lucy Edwards
Captain: Martyn Bray

BOYS TEAM

The Avon U10’s County Cup Boys Team have won the Regional event held at Coombe Dingle, Bristol to make it through to the National Finals in Bolton!

On day 1 we had a tough start against Somerset and Cornwall going 2-1 down in both after the singles rounds. But some true grit, determination and some excellent Tennis in the doubles, from Freddie Middleton and Billy Hatcher, saw us beat both counties in Championship Tie-Break Play-offs. So going into day 2, Avon were in pole position.

Day 2 saw Avon step up to the plate in both the singles and doubles. Freddie Middleton led by example as Avon no.1 and won both his singles. Jamie Thomas also shone over the weekend and won both his also. They then paired up for the doubles to fend off some tough competitors from Wiltshire and Devon to come through triumphant winners 6-2 in both cases.

Finally a special thanks to Jonathan Sedcole who, as our no.4, unfortunately did not get the opportunity to play but was such a positive influence on the boys and a great member of team Avon. His chance on the court will come in Bolton that is for sure!

Team: Freddie Middleton, Billy Hatcher, Jamie Thomas & Jonathan Sedcole
Team Captain: Ollie Bendall
