Writhlington School, near Radstock, in Avon played host to the first Tennis Foundation/LTA Primary School Tennis competition of the season in Bath.
Over 30 young pupils from local primary schools, aged from 7-9, played in the exciting introductory tennis tournament aimed at beginner players or children new to the game.
The children competed in a round robin, timed tennis format and played a variety of singles and doubles matches. The day was organised by Bath Competition Manager, Wendy O'Donnell and Club Tennis Manager, Mandy Stonier and her team of coaches and young leaders from the school in their indoor tennis centre.
This primay school event is one of 9 events scheduled to take place in local schools and clubs across Bath, Bristol and North Somerset.
The winner of each local event across Avon will progress into the School Games County Finals being showcased at Bath University on 20th June 2012.
The champions at the Writhlington event were Trinity School who narrowly beat St Mary's School in a closely fought final.
The Tennis Foundation and LTA are also providing players in the event with a free Babolat Mini Tennis Racket & Ball Set, this is an offer being promoted across Great Britain to players taking part in the primary schools tennis events with the aim of inspiring you children to play more tennis, more often - in schools and at their local places to play.
Julie Jones, the LTA Tennis Development Manager said "we are thrilled that there are so many local tennis events taking place across the area. The Writhlington event has set an excellent stardard and it was wonderful to see so many young children enjoying and competing in the sport of tennis. I am confident that many of the pupils playing today will go on to access programmes and coaching at their local venues".
