Jo was born in Bristol in 1960 and started playing tennis @ Kings when she was 8 years old.

Denis Bendall was Jo’s first coach, Jo won all three under eighteen National Championships at the age of fifteen.

In 1977 she played her first Wimbledon before touring the tennis circuit for eighteen years, coached by Alan Jones.

In 1984 she achieved her highest WORLD ladies ranking of 5.

She was a semi-finalist of the French and US Open 1983 in singles.

Other highlights of her career includes being a finalist at Wimbledon in 1984 and winning the mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 1987 and the Australian in 1991, with her on-court partner, Jeremy Bates. Jo was ranked Britain’s number 1 lady for 9 years and was winner of the National Championships on 7 occasions.
