Writhlington Young stars go out and about in the UK to play their tennis...

Even with the wet & rainy summer we have had, two of our young players at Writhlington Tennis Centre , Avon County have proved themselves in no uncertain terms how dedicated & committed they are to their sport.

Eleanor Nobbs aged 12 years, had a super summer, her quote is

“At the beginning of the summer I went to the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, where my team and I won the National Premier Team tennis finals. Soon after, I played an U14 regional tournament in Taunton, where I came 3rd, before heading down to the National Championships in Bournemouth.

In Bournemouth, I had some close matches, and I gained very good experience. My last summer event of the summer was the Avon County Closed, where, despite the bad weather, I won my first match, before losing a really close final. Overall it has been a good summer and I am really pleased with how I have played”.  This last weekend Eleanor played at Bishop Sutton Tennis Club and won their girls U17 singles & doubles, said dad Tim ‘ we are really proud of Eleanor, tennis is a tough sport for girls, but my wife, her two younger sisters & I will support her 100 % of the way’.

J’Quon Duvall-Richards aged 10 years, won a Grade 2 tournament at Bath University, won several matches at other events competing at U12 level, including playing at the Avon County Closed in both the U10 & U 12 events, being runner up in both, he did however win the U10 doubles with is friend Sean Helstrip .

Moving to the National Championships at Bournemouth  J’Quon then became the No 1 player in the UK for the Under 10’s winning his age group,  this is a HUGE achievement for a boy so young and at Writhlington we are really proud of both of our players.

Said Tom Entwistle, Head Coach ‘ I have been coaching both of these juniors for over two years now and the improvement in them is incredible, the meteoric rise of J’Quon over the last 10 months is amazing, his attitude on court and during a match is so focussed that we can see him going far”

Said Mandy Stonier, Head of Tennis ‘Eleanor & J’Quon are both supported by the Malcolm Eglin Trust, an organisation dedicated to helping young talented tennis players, but we are always looking for sponsorship for our players as we know tennis is a tough, expensive & competitive sport when you get to performance level, with excellent parental support for both children, we never have any problems motivating them to get on court and train,  the outcomes at tournaments are usually successful when transferring what they have learnt into a competitive situation’.
