The team of David Mills (captain), Pieter van Houten, Richard Ground, Scott Martin, Adrian Blackman and Alan Leeder took on teams from Middlesex, Avon and Hertfordshire.
Mills and Van Houten won their singles on the first day against Middlesex and then teamed up to win their doubles. Martin and Ground won their doubles to seal a 4-1 victory. That score was reversed on the second day against Hertfordshire although the score was a lot closer in reality.
On the final day, the team knew that a 5-0 win against Avon could still give them a slim chance of promotion. Mills and Van Houten won their singles and teamed up again successfully. With a walkover from Avon all turned on the final doubles which Martin and Ground came through despite facing two match points.
All was then in the balance with Cambs, Herts and Middlesex all on the same number of match wins. Middlesex and Cambs had the best rubbers ratio and it then came down to the head to head match which Cambs had won.
Mills commented "We were absolutely delighted to secure promotion back to division one. We knew before the weekend that the group was going to be tough and so it proved. But we've got a great team spirit, the team played very well the entire weekend and battled to the last.
