Over the past four years there have been some significant developments to the competitive structure in Great Britain, which have supported growth in the number of juniors competing regularly from less than 9,000 to over 43,000

Due to this there will be changes in the ratings system which will focus on giving more players the opportunity to develop and improve their level and enter and play in the right competitions for their standard.

Cambridgeshire girls 18 and under team missed out on staying in a very strong Group 2 of Aegon County Cup over the weekend despite some good performances from the team.

The U9 Cambridgeshire team had mixed fortunes at the Mini Orange Festival of Tennis event at Corby, Northants finishing in 6th place.

There were 8 counties altogether with two groups of four, with the top two in each group going through to the semi finals and the other four teams contesting for 5th place.

The Cambridgeshire girls and boys 18 and under teams had a good weekend at Corby on Saturday 5th February both winning their Groups in the 12 Counties Competition

The County 14 and under teams performed very well at Corby on Saturday 22nd January both winning their groups

Roger Draper, Chief Executive of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), has praised Cambridgeshire tennis clubs and coaches for their work in improving access to the sport in rural areas.

The chief executive of the LTA was a special guest at Cambridgeshire LTA’s annual general meeting in the Old Library at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, yesterday evening where he spoke to 60 players, coaches and officials from the county’s clubs about the LTA’s support for their efforts to enhance facilities, improve access to the sport and increase opportunities to play for local people of all ages and abilities.

 

 

 

Cambridgeshire boys and girls 8 and under teams played extremely well to finish third and fourth respectively in the Inter County Mini Red Team Event at Stevenage on Sunday 27th February.

The team: Will Huyton, Sam Fleck, Josh Wilson, Ben McCann, Chad Richard, Josh Lightowler, Jack Thorndike, James Morris

Venue: Taunton, Somerset

2011 saw Cambridgeshire up against South Wales, Durham & Cleveland and Somerset.
