Thursday, March 10, 2011

Cambridgeshire boys team of James Murphy, Nik Ahyaee, Harry Forber, Puneet Sunner, Zac Cox and Leon Kewney finished a very creditable third in the Inter County Mini Red Team Event on 27th February. The competition consisted of teams from Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex Hertfordshire, Norhants, Norfolk and Suffolk.  All the players competed against their opposite number from each of the other Counties and played 10 minute timed matches trying to win as many points as possible in the 10 minutes. Cambridgeshire beat Norfolk, Nothants, Bucks, Suffolk and Essex and narrowly lost to Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Cambridgeshire finished with 580 points two points ahead of Essex and so took the bronze medals. It was a great team effort but special mention to Harry Forber and Zac Cox who scored over 100 points for the team.

The girls team of Chaaya Malik, Natasha Scott, Sama Malik, Megan Carmichael, Laurie Cruikshank and Charlotte Laing also played extremely well to finish fourth overall behind Essex, Herts and Bedfordshire on 563 points. The girls beat Norfolk, Nothants, Bucks and Suffolk and lost to Beds, Essex and Herts. Natasha Scott and Megan Carmichael each won over 100 points. The girls narrowly missed out on third spot by a few points.

A great day was had by all and it was excellent competition for these young 8 and under players
