Cambridgeshire’s Kira Reuter, Aisha Brown and HarryWendelken shine at National Invitation Events at Roehampton

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Kira Reuter had a very good 2 days at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton on 9/10 August finishing runner up in the 10 and under event. Kira played some very attacking tennis beating Niamh Townsend in the first round 4/1, 4/1. In the second round she defeated Savannah Yardley without dropping a game 4/0, 4/0. In the semi final Kira played a great match against Francesca Booth which she eventually won 4/2, 5/3 with some excellent tennis. In the final Kira was up against Middlesex’s Destinee Martins and despite a valiant effort she just fell short losing 2/4, 5/3 and then 5 – 10 in the match tie break.

Aisha Brown who is quite new playing at this level had a great 2 days as well. Although she lost her first match to Esther Adeshina 1/4 , 4/5 she the bounced back with a good win over Lauren Armstrong from Bucks 2/4, 4/0 and then 10-6 in the match tie- break. She then lost to Ola Pitak 2/4, 2/4 but finished with a win over Charisma Nuqui 4/0, 4/2. To have two good wins at this level is very encouraging for Aisha.

In the 9 and under Invitation event on Friday 12th August at the National Tennis Centre Harry Wendelken who had come in a as a reserve played some aggressive tennis on the mini orange court to finish a fantastic third. In mini orange matches are the best of three tie breaks to 7 points with a two point lead. Initially the players were in groups of 4 playing everyone else in their group and then the first and second placed players progressed to the quarter finals.

In his first match Harry beat Ryan Golesworthy 8/6, 5/7, 8/6; then beat Charley Gregory 7/4, 4/7, 7/5. He lost to Adam Bolchover 4/7, 2/7 and so finished second in his group. He then progressed to the quarter finals and then beat Alex Harper 1/7, 7/3, 7/5. In the semi finals he faced Barney Fitzpatrick and after a really close match just lost 7/5, 6/8, 5/7.

However Harry bounced back in the third/fourth play- off to beat Oscar Brown 7/4, 7/5.

This capped a very good week for Cambridgeshire players – Harry also travelled to Felixstowe on Sunday and won the event there!!

Coach Sue Rich – said – ‘Kira. Aisha and Harry all had a great week and played some great tennis which is good for the future of Cambridgeshire Tennis and well done to them all’.
