August, 2011: After months in the planning and weeks in the making, Papworth Tennis Club’s new and improved Pavilion is officially open. The opening of the new Club Pavilion, which features a tea and coffee making area, disabled toilet and changing room, meeting room and patio area, was marked with a gathering of members who cut the ribbon on the new building before playing tennis and enjoying coffee, and brunch all prepared in the brand new Club Pavilion.
The new facility was made possible by the support of Papworth Parish Council. Debra Barker, club secretary, who oversaw the project, said: “We are extremely grateful for the very generous financial support from Papworth Everard Parish Council as without it we would not have been able to complete the project this year and to such a high standard. We were also very pleased with the support from the main contractor Priory Building (St Neots) Limited.
Papworth Tennis Club, in Papworth village, has 130 members including children, juniors and adults. It is a small club but boasts a busy fixture list of matches, a Club Coach who teaches Mini Tennis sessions for children from four years and Summer Camp tennis sessions.
John Peal, club chairman, said: The completion of the Club Pavilion signifies the latest stage in the club’s evolution – the committee is determined to continually improve the facilities we provide to existing members, visiting players and our coaching staff. With four courts and floodlighting, and the much improved clubhouse, we are well-positioned to welcome new members of all ages and stages.”
