Colin Tait (70 Men's Captain) is very pleased to report that this was the first year that Cambridgeshire has entered a Men's 70s Team into the Inter County Championships.
Taking place at David Lloyd Leisure Centre, they won the Division and were promoted to Division 2 by beating Northumberland 8-0 and now have the possibility of a shot at Div 1 for 2017.
Bob Harrrower and Mike Moore played their finest match for the County and achieved the dreaded double bagel twice, winning all four of their sets 6-0!!! It is extremely rare to play a match of County standard without dropping a game!
At the first home match, Cambs 70s Men v Leicestershire (who were leading the table undefeated) until our 1st pair, Bob Harrrower & Mike Moore and 2nd pair Brian Brown & David Sabberton won all the sets, 8-0. Then they played away at Wiltshire where they they won 8-0 again.
Their toughest match was against Hereford & Worcestershire that ended 2-2 on rubbers but 6-4 to Cambs on sets with 2 of the last sets being Championship tie breaks.
Then the The Isle Man team flew into Stansted for their match played at Hills Road Sports & Tennis Centre and again Cambs gave a dominating performance (same team players) 8-0.
The photo taken just after their promotion match yesterday shows from the left Mike Moore, Bob Harrrower, David Sabberton and Brian Brown.
