Cambridgeshire U18 Girls Team performed extremely well in Group 1 at Bath over the weekend. Last year the team got promoted to Group1 but unfortunately 5 of the team were no longer eligible this year which meant captain Sue Rich took a young team to Bath. The team of Sophie Watts, Anneka Watts, Vicky Nicholas, Alice McGee, Naomi Jackson, Eilish Mackie and reserve Zoe Douglas played their hearts out and were a credit to the County. Although they came fourth overall in this competition behind Sussex, the winners, Yorkshire and Essex there were some outstanding individual results. Sophie Watts playing at number one, won all three of her singles without dropping a set. Anneka Watts won two singles playing at number two as well.
The team lost 5 matches to 4 against Sussex on the first day – Sussex eventually winning the event! They were out played by Yorkshire on the second day. On the third day they fought very hard against Essex and were unlucky to lose – they actually won more games than Essex!
All the team are eligible next year and will have gained from this fantastic experience. Well done everyone.
