The Cambridgeshire girls and boys 10 and under teams fought hard at the 12 Counties at Corby on 2nd January but were out played by teams from Yorkshire, Hertfordshire and Essex.
The boys’ team of Marcus Witt, Harry Wendelken, Michael Catt and Isaac Rowles, some of whom were making their County debut were out classed by a very strong Yorkshire team 4 matches to 0. Marcus Witt had the best score narrowly losing to the Yorkshire number one player by 11 – 9 in the third set match tie break.
In the second match against Essex the boys again had a tough match. The highlight again was the excellent match of the number one where Marcus again lost a really close encounter 10 – 7 in the third set match tie-break!
The final match against Hertfordshire also saw the boys succumb by 4 matches to 0.
The girls team was weakened by the absence of two players who were away over Christmas but gave an opportunity for Khumo and Diketso Karas to play their first match for the County. On paper it looked as if the girls were going to have an even tougher time than the boys but the team of Natasha Scott, Khumo Karas, Lizzie Frisk and Diketso Karas played very well. Diketso won her match against Yorkshire 4/0. 5/3 and Lizzie only narrowly lost 2/4, 3/5 so overall the team lost 3 matches to 1.
In the match against Essex the girls drew 2 matches all with wins from Natasha 2/4, 5/4, 10 -8 and then Diketso 4/0. 4/1.
In the final match the girls were outclassed by a strong Herts team.
Well played to everyone. The next age group to compete is the 12 and under on Saturday 21st January.
