The Winter County Mini Red Tournament held at Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre on 8th January attracted a very good entry of 30 boys and 9 girls from all around the County.
There were some excellent matches and all day the players were really competitive with pride of place going to Zac Cox who won the boys event and Megan Carmichael ending up as winner of the girls event. Zac who has had experience of playing at Regional Level was pushed all the way in the final against Leon Kewney before eventually winning 6-10, 10-4, 10-3.
In the girls event Megan Carmichael lost in her box against the vastly improved Jessica Wood but then came through to meet Sophie Price in the final who she beat 10-7, 10-3.
Some of the younger players showed great promise particularly Charlie Adams who reached his first semi-final, and Lucas Summers and Ted Hope – all names to look out for in the future.
Sue Rich, the referee was delighted with the number of children taking part and also the quality of the play and the competitiveness of the children – all good signs for the future.
