Cambridge University Women’s team of Laura Morrill (Murray Edwards) – Secretary; Alex Goodwin (Lucy Cavendish); Victoria Watson (Jesus) – captain; Silvla Gugleilmi (Homerton); Emma Kudzin (Newnham): and Corina Balaban (Homerton) and reserves Georgina Kilbourn (Trinity Hall) and Genevieve Gotla (Christ’s) all played their part in this exceptional win played on the grass at the National Tennis Centre, Roehampton.
The team won 10 of the 12 singles matches with only Alex Goodwin playing at number two losing against Oxford number one Philippa Coates and Corina Balaban losing to Estelle Merle at number six. The only other match that Cambridge lost was the third string doubles playing against Oxford’s first pair.
Coach Sue Rich said ‘this was the most convincing win for Cambridge since the format was changed to 21 rubbers in 2005 and was an excellent team effort even without our top player who was unavailable – all the Cambridge team played with pride and great competitive spirit’.
