The Cambridgeshire Boys 10 and under Team of Alex Wardley, Charlie James, Vincent Chen and reserve Sam Clark finished a well deserved second in the Aegon Inter County 10 and under Event on 29/30 May.

The event was held at Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre and despite some inclement weather on the Saturday when many matches had to be played indoors and the windy conditions on the Sunday, all the boys performed with great credit. Each match consisted of 3 singles and then 1 doubles with 2 points awarded for each win. If the match score was 4 points all then the outcome was decided by a tie- break shoot out to 10 points.

On the Saturday the team lost to a very strong Essex squad but all the players gave their opposition some tough matches. In the second match they drew with Suffolk 2 matches each but then lost on the tiebreak shoot out by 10 points to 7.

On the Sunday the team came back strongly and beat Norfolk by 3 matches to 1 and then beat Bedfordshire by 4 matches to 0. Alex Wardley played  very well at number one winning all his matches on the Sunday but was well supported by Charlie James who had 2 good wins on the Sunday and Vincent Chen who won all but one of his singles and two doubles.

With Norfolk then beating Suffolk on the Sunday the Cambridgeshire team finished second overall.
Final order:
1. Essex
2. Cambs
3. Suffolk
4. Norfolk
5. Beds.

Jimmy Morris and Sue Rich were in charge and said: ‘It was an excellent team effort with all the boys playing their part. Had Cambs played Essex on the second day they might even have got closer to them.’
