Cambridgeshire girls 10 and under team of Kira Reuter, Aisha Brown, Ellie Coleman and Molly McDonald played magnificently to win their group at Luton and qualify for the National Finals at Bolton Arena on 11th and 12th June. All the girls played a significant part in wins over all their rivals and in total won all 16 matches.
There were 5 Counties in the Group – Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Essex, Bedfordshire and Suffolk. Each County plays each other over the two days and each match consists of 3 singles matches and 1 doubles match. Each match is the best of 3 short sets and when the score is deuce a sudden death point is played – which adds to the excitement!
On the Saturday Cambridgeshire played Essex and Kira and Aisha won their singles very easily, while Ellie came through a tough match 5/4, 5/4 and then a resounding doubles victory gave Cambridgeshire a 4 – 0 win. The girls then played Suffolk and again speared headed by the top two of Kira and Aisha who only lost 2 games between them they won all the matches for another 4 – 0 win. Molly played with Ellie to win 4-1 4-2.
The key match on the second day was against Norfolk who too had been undefeated on the Saturday. Ellie won her match comfortably at number three 4/2, 4/0 and got the team off to a good start. This was followed by Aisha who again won easily 4/1. 4/0 and the match rested on Kira, the number one player who had a great battle with Katherine Barnes and eventually won 4/1, 1 /4 and then won the deciding toe break 10 – 4. Molly then paired up with Ellie to win the doubles 4-2 4-0.
The last match of the day was against Bedfordshire and the team all performed well winning without the loss of a game!!!
This was a really outstanding effort to win every single match! Team Manager, Sue Rich and on court coach Chris Hirst were absolutely delighted with the weekend. Bolton here we come!!
