U10s Strong Start in 12 Counties Event

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

With Suffolk unable to field a team it meant only three teams were playing and Cambs beat Notts 3-1 with good wins for Natasha Scott, Megan Carmichael and Charlotte Laing. Sama Malik couldn’t make it a clean sweep.

With Notts having beaten Hereford & Worcs 3-1, it meant that Cambs only needed two wins from the four matches to come out on top of the group. Sama Malik lost a closely fought contest going down 7-10 in the match tiebreak. Natasha Scott and Charlotte Laing both won convincingly 4-0 4-1 to grab a draw and mean the girls top the group.

The boys got of to a good start with a 3-1 win over Suffolk. Alex Swarbrick lost a very tight match 3-10 in the match tiebreak before Harry Forber won a match tiebreak 10-4 to level the scores. Vicente Castillo and Ben Knight both won in straight sets 4-2 4-0 and 4-0 4-2 respectively to capture a 3-1 win.

Cambs then followed that up with a hard fought 2-2 draw with Notts with Harry Forber yet again coming from a set down to win another match tiebreak. Ben Knight came through 4-1 4-1 after Vicente Castillo lost a close match tiebreak and Alex Swarbrick lost in straight sets.

Hereford & Worcester were last up and it was an unfortunate day for Alex Swarbrick who lost his 2nd match tiebreak of the day and Harry Forber losing his 1st match tiebreak. But it was down to Ben Knight to see Cambs through with the last match on court to win 4-2 4-0 after Vicente Castillo had give Cambs hope of a comeback.

It all meant that Cambs boys came 2nd to Notts - the reverse in the girls so both counties are tied with the older age groups all competing over the winter months to see who will get promoted to division one.

The U12, U14, U16 and U18’s boys and girls will all compete against the same counties and the overall winner will get promoted.
