Kent’s seven men’s Vets teams, 45-75, are all well into their seasons, with some strong performances behind them.
We arrived at The Southdown Sports Club, Sussex bright and early on the Saturday. The conditions were very windy and made things a little bit tougher for all the teams. All the girls were really excited to play and looked forward to the weekend ahead.
On Saturday 30th June, Kent was at home at the Bromley Tennis Centre to play County Cup.

Our first match this year was against the hosts, Sussex. Whilst they had the home advantage, the Kent girls were raring to go and where more than ready for the challenge ahead.
It was 14 years ago when tennis was last played on the three grass courts at Croydon Recreation Ground in Beckenham and since then the ground has been left to waste.

The finals of the Kent Inter Schools Tennis Competition were held on Friday 29 June 2012 at the Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club. This was the third year that the finals were held at the club, which once again has proved to be an excellent venue for staging the finals of this annual schools’ tennis competition.
On 5th May 2012, over 45 girls travelled to Bromley Tennis Centre to play in an 8U Girls only competition refereed by Helene Jackson.
Following an initial home win( v Avon 3-2), the intrepid travellers of the O45 team set off for a weekend’s tennis in Cheltenham v Gloucestershire and then Poole v Dorset. I am pleased to report one good victory (v Glos 3-2) and a narrow loss (v Dorset 2-3) that leaves us very much in the promotion hunt when we resume battle in August.
On the 4th July 2012 six West Heath juniors, Tanner and Keean de Villiers, Phoebe Ecuyer-Dale, Theodora Enslin, Amelia Monteith and Jamie Smith, got up very early and, with Di and Melinda in tow, boarded the train to Wimbledon.
Deal Indoor Tennis Centre has achieved the Lawn Tennis Association's prestigious mark of quality in its first year of operation.
Clubmark is only awarded to facilities and clubs that have reached specific criteria relating to tennis coaching and management and Deal has become the ninth club in east Kent to be recognised as reaching the standards set by the tennis governing body.
14 teams from across Kent competed in the 8U Kent School Games Finals on 21st June at Canterbury High School.
Torchbearers will run a number of races in July as part of a 70-day UK tour ahead of the games. From Tuesday 17th – Monday 23rd July the Olympic torch will be travelling through various locations in Kent. The torch will visit Canterbury Cathedral, Leeds Castle and the White Cliffs of Dover.
Competition search is the way players and parents can find, enter and pay for a competition online. It’s one of the most used areas of the LTA website, with over 2 million visits a year; however it was introduced over 5 years ago and is due for an upgrade. The new competition search tool will go live around the start of August and we wanted to let you know how the improvements will help you to find and enter competitions.

Refereeing is one of the ways to be involved in competition and a referee is the person who is responsible for supervising all players at a competition to ensure they follow the rules of tennis. A qualified referee is needed at Grade 5 competitions and above as these count for AEGON British Tennis Ratings and Rankings.
Coming up this season, for the first time, is the Grade 5 Meopham LTC Open LTA Sanctioned Tournament
